Transforming a London flat with a herringbone pattern of Luxury Vinyl Tile (LVT) is an excellent way to enhance both aesthetics and functionality. In a recent project, we installed a 12mm plywood to the subfloor and applied a feather finish to the joints before laying a high-quality 2.5mm glue-down herringbone LVT.
Project Overview
The client aimed to elevate their living space with a flooring solution that offers both visual appeal and durability. They selected a high-quality 2.5mm glue-down Herringbone pattern LVT, known for its resilience and low maintenance.
Our Process
Subfloor Preparation with Feather Finish:
To achieve a flawless surface for the LVT installation, we meticulously prepared the plywood subfloor. Joints between plywood sheets can lead to imperfections if not properly addressed. We applied a feather finish—a fine, cement-based compound—to the joints, creating a seamless and smooth surface ideal for the LVT application. This step is crucial in preventing any telegraphing of imperfections through the LVT, ensuring a pristine final appearance.
LVT Installation in Herringbone Pattern
With the subfloor expertly prepared, we proceeded to install the glue-down LVT in the classic herringbone pattern. This design choice adds a timeless elegance to the space, creating visual interest and a sense of movement within the rooms. The precision required for Herringbone installation cannot be overstated; each piece must be meticulously placed to maintain consistent angles and alignment throughout the entire flat.
Final Outcome
The completed project showcases a seamless blend of style and durability. The Herringbone LVT not only enhances the aesthetic appeal of the flat but also provides a hard-wearing, easy-to-maintain flooring solution suitable for daily living. The installation of the 12mm plywood subfloor, combined with our detailed feather finish application and precise LVT installation, resulted in a flawless finish that will be enjoyed for years to come.
